WHAT WE DO

Sustainability Education for a More Responsible Future

Lasting change starts with understanding. Lift Up QLD explores how learning about clothing reuse, waste and responsible consumption can help individuals, schools, businesses and community groups make more considered choices.

Understanding clothing waste and consumption

Clothing is produced, purchased and replaced at a remarkable pace, and the environmental cost of that turnover is easy to overlook. Understanding where clothing comes from — and where it goes when discarded — is the first step toward more responsible consumption.

Education is practical, not abstract: knowing how to care for clothing, when to repair, when to pass items on and when to recycle turns good intentions into everyday habits.

Reduce, reuse, recycle — in that order

The familiar three principles work best in sequence. Reducing unnecessary purchases has the biggest impact; reusing items — by wearing them longer or passing them on — comes next; and recycling handles what is left over.

Lift Up QLD applies this thinking to clothing: keep textiles in use for as long as possible, and direct what cannot be reused toward responsible recycling options where they exist.

For schools, businesses and community groups

Sustainability learning works best when it is shared. Schools, businesses and community groups can discuss initiatives around clothing reuse, care and responsible disposal with the team — from talks and activities to collaborative projects.

Specific sessions and programmes are planned together, and nothing is scheduled without confirmation. Enquire to explore what might be possible for your group.

FAQS

Questions people ask about sustainability education

Sustainability education helps people understand how everyday choices can affect waste and resource use. For Lift Up QLD, this includes clothing care, reuse, responsible donation and appropriate recycling.

Keeping clothing in use for longer helps reduce unnecessary waste and makes better use of items that are still wearable. Reuse should generally come before recycling when an item can continue serving its original purpose.

Schools and community groups can contact Lift Up QLD to discuss possible learning activities, talks or collaborative initiatives. What is available depends on current capacity and arrangements.

Yes. Businesses can enquire about practical ways to support clothing reuse, donation initiatives or sustainability-focused community activities. Any programme or activity would need to be confirmed with the team.

Buy thoughtfully, care for clothing properly, repair items where practical, pass on wearable pieces you no longer need, and check appropriate recycling options for textiles that cannot be reused.

Lift Up QLD’s sustainability activities should be presented as community education and awareness rather than accredited or formal training unless a specific programme has been confirmed.
